  NATIONAL HANDLOOM DAY   WHY IN NEWS? Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah has greeted the people on National Handloom Day.   IMPORTANCE: The handloom sector is a symbol of our country’s rich and varied cultural heritage, and is an important source of livelihood in rural and semi-rural parts of our country. It is also a sector that directly addresses women’s empowerment with over 70% of all weavers and allied workers being female . Rooted in nature, it has eco-friendly production processes with minimal requirement of capital and power, and provides flexibility to innovate to meet changes in fashion trends and fast-changing customer preferences.   The Swadeshi Movement which was launched on 7th August, 1905 had encouraged indigenous industries and in particular handloom weavers.   PARLIAMENTARY PRIVILEGES WHY IN NEWS? ·        The Chairman of Rajya Sabha has stated that Members of Parliament have a wrong belief that during the session they have a privilege from action taken by the investigating agencies. ·        He highlighted that as lawmakers, the member must respect the law and legal procedures. ·        He mentioned that Under Article 105 of the Indian Constitution, Members of Parliament enjoy certain privileges so that they can perform their parliamentary duties without any obstruction. ü A Member of Parliament cannot be arrested in a civil case, 40 days before the beginning of the session or committee meeting and 40 days thereafter.   INAS 314 WHY IN NEWS? Indian Navy’s women officers have created history after they completed the first-ever all-women independent maritime reconnaissance and surveillance mission in the North Arabian Sea onboard a Dornier 228 aircraft.   IMPORTANCE: The mission was carried out by five officers of the Indian Navy Air Squadron (INAS) 314 based at Naval Air Enclave at Gujarat’s Porbandar. The aircraft was captained by the Mission Commander, Lt Cdr Aanchal Sharma, who had pilots, Lt Shivangi and Lt Apurva Gite, and Tactical and Sensor Officers, Lt Pooja Panda and SLt Pooja Shekhawat in her team. For this, the women officers received months of ground training and comprehensive mission briefings in the run-up to this historical sortie, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
